Odor Detection and Repair in Tampa Bay

Do you have a problem with odor in your home or business? The Drain Team® can help anyone in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Sarasota. Our professional plumbers can get to you usually in an hour or less to find out what is causing the odor and give you a free estimate to fix it if we can determine the problem with minimal diagnostic work. We work 24 hour everyday including weekends and holidays. All work is priced by the job so you know what it will cost before we get started.

Causes of Foul Odor

There are many possible problems causing the odor, some are very easy to fix while others require more work. Here are some of the common things we encounter that cause an odor in your house:

  • Unused fixtures in a bathroom
  • Broken Pipes
  • Blockage in the main sewer line
  • Broken Seal in the toilet

If a toilet, sink, or shower is not used for a while in the bathroom, its trap can evaporate and let the smell from the sewer line back up into the house. The trap can also get pulled back into the sewer because of a back up caused by a belly or root intrusion in the sewer line.

The toilet has a seal where it connects with the floor. If that seal wears out, it may allow water to seep out and eventually cause odor problems. We can replace the seal or toilet depending on the age and type of toilet.

Odor Detection

If a normal “smell test” doesn’t confirm where odors are coming from we can always do a smoke test. This is especially common in large or high rise buildings where odors may travel over multiple floors. We send high visibility smoke through the pipes and will be able to see smoke seeping out from even small holes. Once we locate the leak, we can repair it, causing the least amount of damage to the surrounding structure.
